"Fake News," and you know what I'm talking about DS. Lol!

And that, my friend, is why I don't believe in evolution, or man-made global warming, for that matter.

Ini and Phil - not really fake news, but what I like to call incomplete or biased; here is the explanation: https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/nation/2017/04/19/these-photos-show-patriots-white-house-turnout-for-trump-obama/bSrXdd9bP2sgczgb1J10RL/story.html

Also Phil - evolution is not a belief system - it's the best explanation of the entirety of observation and experimentation. Besides, nobody really gives a rip if you "believe" in it or not - science is not a matter of opinion.

Whoa! Why do you call me Phil rather than Paul or Patrick? Maybe I think evolution is a belief system because I've been reading the wrong books. Can you recommend something that will change my mind?

May I join the fray? Read the interesting article referenced. There are many others out there with different takes. I plugged in "did tom brady go to the white house?" at info.com (beats Google) and got the usual umpteen references. My favorite is that Tom Brady's liberal wife didn't want him to go because she's a Trump hater. So, in order to preserve domestic piece, Brady made up some BS story and stayed home.

Elementary my dear Phil - I am a bit psychic and a cunning linguist, so it was easy to figure out :-) Suggested reading - start with The Language of God by Francis Collins, head of the NIH and the most public scientist/evangelical Christian.

Also about Brady - skipping for his wife I believe is fake news; as far as I know, he was involved with taking care of his mother who has cancer.

You just about have me there, Dr. S. All I need to find is evidence of transition species as would be indicated by the fossil record. Will let you know when I get that final piece of the puzzle.

Douglas E said...

The fossil record is minuscule compared with everything that has lived, but if you google transition species, you will see hundreds of examples. More specifically, one should consider that every species is a transitional species, on the way toward extinction, being stable or changing over a long period of time into something slightly different. On this blog, you can read about the mud-skipper - a living transitional if there ever was one!!!

Don't know about you, PL, but I reject the theory of evolution based on the fact that it is used as a tool by Satan to cause disbelief in the God of the Bible. Evolution is not taught as theory, but as fact in the schools, thus vulnerable "heads full of mush" (as Rush would call them) students conclude that if evolution is true, then the Bible can't be true. As result, many who had faith as a young person discarded it, and countless others never come to faith. Works out great for Satan. Science has not yet proved the fact of evolution. It still remains a theory. They can make inferences and that is it. And there is absolutely no shred of any scientific evidence of how we got from molten rock to DNA. I know, there are theistic evolutionists who say it is God guided, but if it is guided by God, it is not evolution in my mind. Also, why the great fear of teaching the "theory of creation" alongside the "theory of evolution" in many schools? Because that would not suit Satan's agenda.

Well Bizzy - you are in error on so many counts, one does not know where to begin!! :-) But let's start with your misunderstanding of what a theory is - go read about it and get back with me. While you are at it, be sure to understand the difference between evolution and the theory of evolution. You should also then note that there is no such thing as the theory of creation.

Bizzy Brain said...

You are right, there is no theory of creation. When atheist James Watson was asked how DNA evolved from molten rock, he, of course, could come up with no hypothesis or "theory of creation." He simply stated, "It came from outer space." That from the Nobel Prize winning discoverer of the structure of DNA. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me! So, we are left with two choices, either we came from outer space or God dunnit. Don't have to worry about any messy theories. Lol!

Rick O'Shea said...

That still leaves the question, "Did life 'just happen' in outer space somewhere, or did God create it out there?"

Douglas E said...

Bizzy and Rick - back to my point - a theory is the best explanation of all of the available data, and it must be consistent with ALL of the accepted data. If it does not fit well documented data, then the theory must be adjusted. Most people believe that a theory is weak whereas in truth a theory is exceedingly strong. A theory is explanatory as well as predictive; if it lacks either, it is not a theory. It could be a hypothesis, which also requires that what is posited is subject to investigation and testing. Less than hypothesis comes conjecture, acclamation and wild-ass guess. If it cannot be tested, it is not science. Hence, biblical creation a la a literal interpretation of Genesis is neither a theory nor a hypothesis. It is claimed to be true by acclamation without any data or investigation. Indeed, all of the scientific evidence does not align with a young earth and all of the accouterments of that narrative. You are right that the current status of ultimate origins lies in the realm of conjecture and hypothesis - but there are folks who are studying various possibilities for the origin of the universe and the origin of life. Remember that evolution says nothing about the origin of life - it has to do with changes in the forms of life that we know about. Regarding the loss of faith, work of Satan, etc.....BS. If one's faith hinges on a literal reading Genesis 1 and 2 versus the reality of science, one does not have much of a faith. I think that it is pretty much an urban myth that studying evolution leads to the loss of faith - show me the data!! :-) I think that more often, studying science makes a person think more deeply about scripture.

Bizzy Brain said...

Thanks for saving me the trouble of reading up on theory and getting back to you. Lol! Your explanation saved a lot of time. Appreciate it. Do not have loss of faith data on science leading people astray. It comes from personal anecdote. People have told me about "losing their kids to science" when they got to college and were taught the opposite of what they learned from the Bible at home and in church. It is not that they expanded their thinking to allow for belief in evolution and an old earth, they abandoned Christianity altogether. Maybe what actually happened is they lost their kids to sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll on campus. Lol!

Douglas E said...

Bizzy - suggestion - google 'why people leave the church' and 'why people lose their Christian faith'; you find next to nothing about evolution versus young earth creation. And, a note about your concerns about Satan - it seems clear that if one accepts that God is in control of all things, Satan has been given permission to do evil - here is one analysis:

Bizzy Brain said...

Agree that Satan is permitted to do evil. He has been defeated and he knows it and knows his fate and is pulling out all the stops in these last days to corrupt and win as many souls as he can before he is sealed forever in the lake of fire. He is as crazed as the Democrats with Trump Derangement Syndrome. BTW, do Mennonites believe in the existence of Satan?

Douglas E said...

BB - when questions arise about what Mennos believe, I head to GAMEO, the Global Anabaptist Mennonite Encyclopedia Online.

I heard they don't believe in sex because it may lead to dancing. Will have to look that up, too. Thanks for the link.
