NCAA ACADEMIC BRACKET - 2012

While the hoopla mounts surrounding tonight's NCAA men's basketball championship [I picked Kansas in my bracketology], I think the bracket below is much more interesting and informative - the winners are picked based on graduation rates of their student-athletes [a real misnomer at some schools].  If the upcoming mandate for graduation rates had been in place, 13 of these teams would not have been in the tournament.  Rather shameful IMHO.  [click on image for larger, clearer version]

Is this an April fool's joke?
According to this web site, the graduation rate for Harvard atheletes is 98% per NCAA or 97% per Federal rates.

Therefore, it seems they should win the tournament.

Clif - nope - not a joke [I read about his before April 1 :-] It's rather amazing, eh?

Well, Calipari finally gets his national championship - but he still remains the only coach to have two teams [U Mass and Memphis] vacated from their Final Four appearances. It's only a matter of time that the troubles will follow him to Kentucky.

Am not so sure Calipari is to blame. One of the vacations (does that word apply here?) was due to a star player having someone else take his SAT test for him. Another star player received money from an agent. Those incidents appear to be out of Coach's control. On the other hand, am thinking word gets around about how ethical or unethical a program is and a coach knows that going in.

I guess the moral of the story is that no Harvard basketball players go on to become NBA millionaires.

Phil - Jeremy Lin; perhaps not yet a Harvard - NBA - millionaire, but soon will be.

Bizzy - thought maybe you had passed away! Although Calipari was never directly implicated in investigations, IMHO he is ultimately responsible and culpable.

Oops, forgot about Jeremy Lin.

If you REALLY want to get to the bottom of cupability, you have to look at the school president, board of trustees, and AD. They all (with very few exceptions) know what's going on.

Except for the president of Purdue. She is a clueless, affirmative action hire.

Amen Bizzy.
