CONGRESSMAN MARK SANFORD - REALLY?

Now, I must admit that I do not know anybody from South Carolina or even anyone who lives there.  No doubt there must be some reasonable, intelligent, discerning folks there - however - they are obviously not a majority among the voters.  It is beyond my comprehension how a lying, cheating, self-centered criminal could  win a seat in Congress, except for the claim by Sanford that God's redemption led to his victory.  A few of us would have some questions for Sanford's God about this particular decision.  Bottom line - a dysfunctional Congress is directly attributable to a dysfunctional electorate - QED.

Runs both ways. The dysfunctional electorate elected a "lying, cheating, self-centered criminal" for President. At this rate, the country is too stupid to survive as a prosperous, secure, free nation. BTW, the progressives ran a crap candidate against Sanford.

I might add, that Clinton's lying and cheating and criminal behavior did not seem to phase those who voted for him

Was surprised to hear he was trying to make a comeback, then my jaw dropped when he won. Oh, well, one more conservative voice in the House. After all, what a person does in the bedroom (or on the trail) is his own business. Lol!

Us folks in Kansas seem to be embarrassed on a daily basis by our own politicians. But the folks in South Carolina out did us on this one.

Sick One - no argument regarding scum - found on both sides of the aisle. One problem is that so many on the conservative right have such a pious, holier-than-thou attitude and are just as bad as any on the liberal left.

BB - a conservative? Out to mainly conserve himself I would say....

Clif - although you may have had more that your share, I would venture to say that no state is immune to the shenanigans of career politicians.

A different subject - are you related to the late Karl and LaVerne H from Goshen??

Kansas gave us Kathleen Sebelius and Ann Dunham, Obama's mom. On the other hand they gave us the Kansas City Chiefs, Amelia Earhart, and Faty Arbuckle, which offsets it quite a bit.

I would disagree that "many on the right...are just as bad as any on the liberal left." Those "many" are at least part of a group that is far superior to the liberal left in that the right is virtuous and the liberal left lacks virtue. Also, the right is rational, whereas the left is irrational, denies and suppresses truth, and hangs their hat on infantile, utopian fantasies.

Would generally agree with S3, but add that the right is not immune to denying and suppressing truth. Jason Richwine recently "resigned" from The Heritage Foundation for stating, basically, that IQ is related to genetics. That made him a bigot, thus, out the door he went. Ditto James Watson at Cold Spring Harbor. Hmmm...that would make God a bigot also.

S3 - first note, I made a type - the many should have been matched by many, not any. Regardless, I think that there are those on the left who would claim virtue, particularly the Christian clergy and practitioners who empasize Jesus' words about caring for the other - e.g. your favorite I am sure, Jim Wallis :-) Heard him recently tat the Boulder Bookstore - you shoulda been there!

Lol! Interesting, Douglas E, that you should mention Jim Wallis. My oldest daughter gifted me with one of his books and I actually read it! My problem with the lefty good guys is that they are not necessarily in bed with awful people, but they are in the same bedroom

Phil L. said...

Jim Wallis may be close to realizing his dream. There is bread (food stamps) and circuses (free cell phones) for all the oppressed needy. There is free medical care and subsidized housing, with a few welfare bucks left over for sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll.

S3 and Phil - you need to keep up if you want to be taken seriously. Wallis' current work is in relationship to immigration reform and 'in the same bedroom' is a coalition of Sojourners, the Baptists and Focus on the Family. Perhaps it is sinking in to some folks that people need to do what is right rather than what the party says is right.

Douglas E, you describe me as one who needs to keep up to be taken seriously. True. I run off at the mouth, with tongue in cheek for the most part. Converting others to my point of view is the least thing I expect to happen. You are the thorough, fair-minded, optimistic scholar, while I sit back and spew opinion.
My belief system stems from the God of the Bible. For example, Jeremiah 17:9 states: “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?” That is my simple take on human nature. Given that, is it in any way conceivable that peace, contentment, goodwill, and prosperity among the people on the earth can be achieved? It may be possible for some to achieve that ideal, but for the vast majority, no.
I believe there is an evil spirit being called Satan and that he rules the world. (“The god of this system of things.” 2 Corinthians 4:4. “…the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.” 1 John 5:19. “ now the ruler of this world will be cast out.” John 12:31) I believe that a world under Satan’s rule, by definition, is insane. I did not believe that so much about my country until the Clintons and Obama came along. They cinched the deal.
The country is in a state of spiritual, cultural, and economic decay and all the Jim Wallises of the world are powerless to undo that. The decline is inevitable. Nothing is going to deflect this world’s path towards pagan savagery, unless the God of the Bible is wrong about the world descending into a period of great tribulation.
All we can do in the meantime is love God, be kind to our neighbor, and enjoy the roast beef.

Thanks Phil - am busy today with golf and b-day party, but wanted to say that I completely agree with your final statement!!! :-)

Agree with most of what you say, Phil. Re: pagan savagery, I believe we began our journey there in 1963 when prayer in school was banned and arrrived 10 years later in 1973 when the Supreme Court ruled that baby murder is legal. God keeps score and gives us a legal or illegal alien to replace every baby we butcher. Unfortunately, many of those replacements aren't so nice and like to blow things up, like marathons.

You might have to do a follow-up post on disgraced Congressman, Anthony Weiner, who is running for Mayor or New York City

Douglas E said...

Only if he wins!!!!

Nostradumbass said...

I predict that Weiner will rise again.

Douglas E said...

NDA - brilliant!! I am glad that I did not have any coffee in my mouth when I read that - probably would have ruined my keyboard :-)

NDA said...

Swallow your coffee now. I heard that Anthony Weiner has presidential ambitions, and to capture the black vote, is going to ask Eric Holder to be his VP running mate. That would make it a Weiner-Holder ticket. (Sorry.)

NDA - thankfully I took your advice and swallowed my coffee. Big time LOL at your punch line - did not see it coming, as it were. Worthy of passing along to others!
