On my first day as a post-doc at the
Los Alamos National Laboratory, in the lab I saw an instructional sign, with point 3 slightly modified from the one below. Since LANL is one of the US nuclear weapons laboratories, I read it seriously, and point by point, it pretty much made sense all the way through. Presumably you will agree!!

Good one! Reminds me of Army basic training when they talked about snake bites. Remedy for being bitten by a coral snake is to "spread your legs a comfortable distance apart, bend over, grab your ankles..." and you know the punch line.
Bizzy - you probably remember the grade school drills to prepare us for a nuclear attack - get under your desk!! Boy, that was a real lesson in reality :-) The fire drills were much more fun because we got to stand outside, and if you were an 8th grader up on the second floor, you got to slide down the fire escape tube!!
I can't think of anything within 100 miles of the New Paris area that the Russians would want to nuke.
I remember those fire escape tubes. Used to see them at schools and old folks homes. Don't know why they did away with them.
You are right Bizzy - Chicago would be the closest for anything particularly important; unless the Ruskees had it in for the Catholics, then South Bend :-)
After schools and on weekends, we would climb up the inside of the tube to the second floor just for the joy of the slide. These days the 'guvmnt reglaters' would have a hissy fit over such a structure.
