BYE BYE MELO

I have previously written about my low regard for the professional version of basketball.  Generally speaking, that lack of respect carries over to the individual players as now epitomized by Carmelo Anthony.  All season long, Melo and his equally self-enthralled WAG La La Vasquez have been pining for the Big Apple, playing ball at the center of the universe, blah, blah, blah.  They finally got their wish with today's trade, and the only thing that makes me a bit sad is that Chauncey Billips was included in the deal.  Apparently this was another demand of Megalo Melo.  Chauncey is indeed the "hometown favorite."  The first time that we saw him play was as an all-star high schooler from George Washington in Denver.  The last time we saw him was courtside at the CU Coors Events Center, cheering on his alma mater is a win over Kansas State.  Melo will not be missed, but Chauncey will.

Actually, if you want to see basketball played in its most pure form, watch the ladies play. I heard Carmello would end up with the Knicks as he loves "the Garden." However, there may be some poetic justice in the making. There is talk that Knicks owner, James Dolan, may bring Isiah Thomas (who totally demolished the Knicks organization) back on board. That would be the stupidest decision in basketball. It might leave Carmello playing to a half empty house as the fans loathe Thomas as a manager, coach, president, or whatever.

The Knicks gave up way too much for Carmello. So much that they most likely have undone everything manager Donnie Walsh has been doing to rebuild the organization demolished by Isiah. If that be the case, don't be surprised to see Donnie Walsh leave. (He was a successful manager of the Indiana Pacers for years.) If Isiah is brought in to replace Donnie, that would make owner James Dolan, truly, the most stupid man in basketball.

Bizzy B - good insights. There is some chatter about Walsh being history, so we will see. I am glad that the Nuggets at least got something for Carmelo as opposed to Cleveland and LeBron. I watched last night's Melo-less Nuggets vs the Grizzlies and it was a joy to behold. Real team ball, fast breaks, 2,3,4 passes per possession, and precious little one-on-one. I am hopeful that this will be the look of the new Nuggets - I might actually watch now and then!

Dad -- I don't have a google account or ID but I had to comment after reading your post. We were at the Memphis game. I was really proud of the guys. Numerous guys in double digit scoring (the way it should be). The chant at the end of the game was "who needs Melo?" I'm excited to see what happens with the Nuggets and their new, young talent. Like you, I'll miss Chauncey though and had hoped he could finish his career here.
