HUMBUG

http://elizabethstavis.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/curmudgeon_logo.jpg

Been a while since there has been some curmudeontary here, so let's have at it!!

1.  When did it become 'cool' [and pseudo-intellectual] to pronounce news as noose?  And similarly other _ews words? Seems to be an affliction of the liberal left - hear it on NPR but not on Fox [oops, I rarely watch Fox, but when I do.....]

2.  When did reach out become the 'cool' replacement for the much simpler and more accurate ask, question, contact, etc.?  Maybe it makes the user feel more compassionate, intellectual, who knows....

3.  When will the lunatic right stop blaming Obama for everything that goes bad?  Surely there is enough to blame him for without resorting to idiotic conspiracy claims such as Obama creating ISIS and that Obama created Ebola to destroy Christians.  {I know, the latter is a parody, but not too far off of the mark}

4.  When will the lunatic left stop blaming everything on the vast right-wing conspiracy?

5.  When will CU, and perhaps other Division I universities, finally realize that college football is a farce and a huge waste of resources?  CU's football program fulfills Einstein's quote on insanity.

6.  When will the Nuggets and the Rockies figure out that their problems are not with the players but with the owners and management?

7.  Why doesn't the US fix all of the problems at home rather than trying to fix everyone else's problems?  The cost of a couple of war planes would greatly improve the abysmal conditions of schools on many Native American reservations.

8.  Why is it that some folks reject every aspect of evolution but are outspokenly certain that the eboloa virus will change [evolve] into an airborne pathogen?

9.  Why do many drivers confuse the high-occupancy lane for a high-speed lane?  Same folks seem compelled to give hand gestures to those who abide by the speed limit.

And on and on.....chime in please!

Addendum -  for those of you who may not know Andy Rooney [as referenced in FHorTG's comment], here is Andy Rooney, a true curmudgeon who looked the part!!

Had a flashback to the late Andy Rooney of CBS' 60 Minutes. Lol!

I want to burn this one in your brain. Listen to the way Obama pronounces "s's" at the end of words ending in s. They are not only sibilant, but whistling. I noticed it one time when he was speaking and now can hear nothing else but the hissing, whistling s's. Drives me batty.

BB - hadn't noted the hisses, likely because I get distracted by his nose-up-in-the-air delivery :-)

Amen on Number 7. The child poverty rate in the US is at the highest point in the last 20 years. Twenty five percent of children do not have adequate diets, 5 kids die each day from gunshots and 1 kid dies of domestic violence every 7 hours. Also, the crazies are foaming at the mouth about ebola while obesity and tobacco kill hundreds of thousands Americans each year. Just another demonstration of the stupidity rampant in this country.

Gee, I wonder why there's an increase in poverty? The government pays illiterate, drug-addicted teenagers to have babies. That same government allows the entrance of millions of illegals who are at the bottom of the economic, social, and IQ scales of their native Hispanic countries. I don't think it's a problem the government wants to fix, otherwise it wouldn't have created the situation in the first place.
Editorial comment: This is part of the insidious strategy of Obama and the liberals to wreck the country. (“The US is a wrongfully founded, awful country that deserves it.”)

Let's add 'take it to the next level' to the list of annoying phrases.

All the talk about equality is pure, unadulterated bullshit. Equality is a pillar of Marxism, but no one wants it. Let's say the median family income is $58,000. Equality would mean every family of four would have a $58,000 annual income. The ones making more than $58,000 surely do not want their income reduced, and the ones making less, but working their way up the ladder don't want to top out at $58,000 either. They want the chance to become a millionaire. There is a small class of poor, dumb, lazy slobs who would be content with $58,000 a year, but most people want more than that, or at least the opportunity to earn more than that. In short, hardly anyone is in favor of equality. They are, however, in favor of opportunity, the opportunity to earn as much as their brains and energy will get them.

Phil - a lot of folks confuse equality with equal opportunity. The latter is very important, but it surely does not at all guarantee and equal outcome.

Hey, Already, I would add, "let's think outside the box." Never did like that one. What is "the box?" What constitutes thinking "inside the box" as compared to thinking "outside the box?" I think the funniest thing I read about it is that telling people to "think outside the box" does not help them think outside the box.

DES said...

Agreed - thankfully "outside of the box" and "push the envelope" seem to have waned in popularity.

If you have some time to spare, you can watch Obama wearing out the phrase 'punching above their weight' here:

Answer: I guess because they practice the same magical thinking that evolutionists practice. Lol!
