PLANET PEPPERDINE

Well if Planet Boulder is 25 square miles surrounded by reality, Planet Pepperdine is life in a beautiful bubble.  There is much to like about Pepperdine University, not the least of which is its beauty.  Others agree, as noted in a recent Huffington Post article found here.  Visit this link to take in a virtual tour of the campus.  Enjoy.

Atop the Pepperdine notable alumni list I happened upon was Michael Shermer, listed as Atheist and founder of the The Skeptics Society. Did you ever meet him? Lol!

The fact that Wikipedia led off with Michael Shermer says much about the smarminess of Wikipedia. It states the school is affiliated with the Churches of Christ, then puts an atheist at the top of the prominent alumni list.

My Pepperdine connection is the Wizard brand socket set in the trunk of my car. It came from the Western Auto in Fort Wayne and must be 50 years old. Western Auto was founded by George Pepperdine. Gosh, when stopping to think about it, my money went to George Pepperdine who used it to found Pepperdine University.

Six Sigma - interesting find. However, Shermer is probably indeed one of their more 'notable' alumni. Never did meet him, but we did hear from him when we organized the Defending Darwin symposium a few years ago. The principal organizers did not invite him to give a presentation even though the speakers included a few agnostic/atheist types. I probably would have sent an invite just to hear his story.

Did not look at the wiki entry, but presume that they mentioned the twins from Sister Sister. Tia and Tamara graduated a few years back. Another notable is the late Dennis Johnson, basketball great.

Bizzy - interesting about the socket set! Yes, George left the dying OK plains for the promised land, noted all of the cars in CA and decided that they would need parts :-)

Wiki did mention the twins and Dennis Johnson. Re: Defending Darwin, I heard someone say that idolatry is on the other side of the evolution coin, the idol being Time. In other words, it was not the God of the Bible who created man, but Time performed the creative miracle. Given enough Time, rocks eventually become Man.

SS - and why is Time not a tool of God?

Beats me.

At the rate we're going, my guess is Homo sapiens sapiens will self-destruct and become extinct. Are there any other creatures in the evolutionary pipeline to replace man? Perhaps an improved man?

JA - very good question; one that should perhaps be put to the crowd over at Why Evolution is True. I think that this might be worthy of an After Humans blog post :-)

I would probably be told, "Sorry, the creature that evolved into man is long since extinct and nothing equivalent on the horizon."
