TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

Amazon.com: CafePress Trump Derangement ...

Whenever I have some non-complimentary things to say about Donald, several of my relatives accuse me of having Trump Derangement Syndrome, that Wikipedia defines as thus:

Trump derangement syndrome (TDS) is a pejorative term, used to describe criticism of or negative reactions to President Donald Trump that are perceived to be irrational and to have little regard for Trump's actual policy positions. The term has mainly been used by Trump supporters to discredit criticism of him, as a way of re-framing the discussion by suggesting that his opponents are incapable of accurately perceiving the world. Some journalists have used the term to call for restraint when judging Trump's statements and actions.

Despite the usage of the term syndrome suggesting a medical condition, TDS is not an official medical diagnosis. A 2021 research study found no evidence to support the existence of TDS among Trump detractors on the left, but instead found bias among his supporters.

I would like to follow up on the last sentence, and posit the following:

There are two distinct types of TDS, one that can be labeled TDS-RL for Trump Derangement Syndrome-Radical Left, and a second one labeled TDS-RR for Trump Derangement Syndrome-Radical Right.

I believe that TDS-RL was a primary reason that Trump won the 2024 Presidential Election.  The Democrats bought into the idea that attacking Trump as the pernicious, narcissistic, misogynistic, felon, faux-Christian, sexual predator con-man that he is would surely convince voters to support Harris.  Obviously this failed.  Voters wanted clear statements on the border, illegal immigration, the economy, on men in women's sports, etc., and they got Harris saying that she couldn't think of anything that she would have done differently during the previous four years.

Similarly, I believe that TDS-RR was also a signficant reason that Trump won.  The avid Trump supporters, who are akin to a cult, support Trump regardless of whatever outlandish lies he tells.  The main thing that they care about is "Trump owning the libs" via his rhetoric, even though his policies are most likely going to have an adverse effect on many of his supporters [excepting of course his buddy billionaires]. Too bad these folks didn't actually read Project 2025.

My “accusations” of TDS does not mean that I think such a person is mentally ill, just that they think ideologically. It is a style of thinking that is rigid in its adherence to a doctrine and resistance to evidence-based belief-updating, and favorably oriented toward an in-group and antagonistic to out-groups. It is a psychological phenomenon.

RO - I tend to agree, and what you describe is characteristic of both the far left and the far right.

Einstein once said, “Three great forces rule the world: stupidity, fear, and greed.” Then Bertrand Russell comes along and says, “Live vigorously in the face of uncertainty.” Great advice, but not many people can do that either. So, we have the stupid and the fearful and the greedy seeking certainty and finding it in ideology. The warm, loving arms of that ideology provide the feelings of comfort and control and safety their carnal beings crave, as long as that ideology rules. However, that illusion vanishes when a competing ideology emerges and triumphs. Then they feel hopeless and miserable and believe all is lost. Of course, all that can be avoided by a simple return to Biblical faith. But as Einstein once said…

Pretty deep there Rick. I'll ponder 🤓

You have it all wrong. You say the Democrats told the truth about Trump, when actually they told whopper lies about him. The lies were so laughably outlandish that no one took them seriously. What was true about the lying is that it revealed the Democrats to be the out of touch fools that they are, led by the biggest political fool of all, Karmela Harris. The country hasn’t yet reached the point of insanity that it would vote in such satanic crap.

Fakir - give us some examples of the Lies; I'm guessing I can do at least a 10 to 1 on the lies ratio considering Trump's loose contact with reality!!

Don’t think we could ever come to an agreement on truths and lies. For example, the Dems stated that Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the 2016 election, and millions were wasted on an investigation. The Dems would say, “Just because we can’t prove it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.” Same goes for “faux-Christian.” How does anyone but God know who is or isn’t an authentic Christian? So, our laundry list of truths and lies would go nowhere.
Am going to have to do something about my dumb name, however. My middle name is Kaye, which makes it even worse. Thankfully, am engaged and going to be married shortly, and my last name will be Rection. Hugh G. and I are planning a June wedding followed by a honeymoon in New Paris.

Agreed that we won't agree :-) Perhaps Trump himself did not collude, but undoubtedly the Russians were allowed to flood the zone with lies that aided Trump. If you believe one investigation exculpates Trump, then I assume that you accept the over 60 court findings that there is no evidence for a stolen election despite Trump's lies. Re faux-Christians - Trump is about a faux as you can get - ""by their fruits you shall know them" is a proverb emphasizing that a person's character and true nature are revealed through their actions and the consequences of their behavior. It is found in Matthew 7:16-20 of the Bible. This proverb suggests that one's actions and the results of those actions will reveal whether they are a good or bad person." Glad to hear about your upcoming marriage - fourth?? ;-)

Been following the back and forth here and note that DES has taken an extremely conservative position as shown by referencing the Bible. Truth and Reality lie in America's new Woke philosophy, not the Bible. Each individual is a holy, sacred, sovereign being deserving of the utmost honor and respect. That means that if a man thinks he is a woman, then he really IS a woman, and not to believe and honor that identification is the ultimate in dishonor and disrespect of a fellow human. Likewise, anyone who considers himself a Christian IS a Christian and we must honor and respect that identification, which means we must believe Trump is a Christian if he says he is.
Considering the Biblical good and bad fruits, who is to decide what fruits are good and bad anyway? We shouldn’t judge our fellow humans that way. The John Steinbeck character, Jim Casey, in Grapes of Wrath, had this to say, “There ain’t no sin and there ain’t no virtue. There’s just stuff people do. It’s all part of the same thing. And some of the things folks do is nice, and some ain’t nice, but that’s as far as any man got a right to say.” Maybe Steinbeck was our first Wokester. Lol!

DES, it will be the second marriage for both Hugh and I. Due to schedule conflicts we only could take a week off for the honeymoon, thus chose New Paris as a week there would seem like a month or more.

New Paris will be great! You can stroll the lovely boulevards and eat some great cuisine! I particularly recommend the pizza located in the old funeral home. Note that the lights that used to shine down on the deceased's coffin now light up the counter :-) Also the fried chicken is pretty good at the joint where the old grocery store used to be.

Thanks for the suggestions, DES! We also plan to visit the New Paris Museum of Art, take in some concerts by the New Paris Philharmonic, and enjoy the latest theatre productions at the New Paris Center for the Performing Arts. We plan a fun day at the New Paris Zoo, and will attend athletic events at the New Paris Coliseum. Have always wanted to visit the Mall of New Paris, which will be an interesting experience.

I am so glad to hear that you are going to be taking all of what New Paris has to offer; however, you left out one must-do - taking a swim in pee pee pond!

Yikes! Forgot all about that one, DES. Thanks for the reminder!
