Perspectives of a Colorado Curmudgeon on topics ranging from Basketball to Music to Science & Religion to Travel to Memories, touching on a bit of everything.
Maybe this is a little too tacky for your blog, but back in 1967, Purdue went to the Rose Bowl and faced the USC Trojans. Students create signs for the camera when it zooms onto fans. One such Purdue sign read "Lubricate the Trojans," which Purdue did. They won the game. My favorite was when Michigan State played Notre Dame in the "game of the decade" many decades ago. One poll had Notre Dame number one and Michigan State number two and the other poll had Michigan State number one and Notre Dame number two. Michigan fans held up a sign that read "Hail Mary full of grace, Notre Dame's in second place.
BB - perhaps sadly, I remember both of your tidbits quite well :-) I do believe that I remember seeing the "Lubricate" sign on TV. Also, on the ND campus, the Library is right past one of the endzones of the football field. An 8 story mosaic of Jesus is on the library wall, and he is holding up both hands - thus the mosaic immediately became Touchdown Jesus. Also on campus, maybe in front of the library is a statue of Moses, one arm raise and one finger pointing skyward - obviously "We're Number One"!!
I remember Touchdown Jesus and don't think the touchdown signal was coincidence. The mural was a gift to the school, probably from a rabid fan (isn't fan short for fanatic?). Here is a link to the picture:
BB - here is a link to the Moses stature - I forgot his horns are also a part of the statue: http://www.halfwaytonormal.com/2009/04/notre-dame-obama-my-own-inconsistencies/

The high school nickname is Trojans. The town's name is Bourbon. That sounds like a mischievous combination.
Funny; too much of the town juice and you will need a "nickname."!!
