On December 1, I posted Faces of American Dead in Vietnam: One Week's Toll. Now both the New York Times and the Washington Post have similar graphics for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The New York Times interactive graphic is entitled Faces of the Dead and chronologically identifies each service member who had died in Afghanistan or Iraq. The Washington Post graphic is called Faces of the Fallen and has other data in addition to the pictures. The Post notes that 6,612 U.S. service members have died in Operation
Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The Post information is updated at least weekly.

Not so much furor over war since the draft ended back in the 70's.
You are exactly right Bizzy - I still believe that there should be a national service requirement for all youth, men and women, either in the military or with civilian projects [maybe Peace Corps but I would prefer domestic]. No deferments, no dada...two years, completed between 18 and 28 y.o.
that's "no nada" - duh
Agree in principle with national service. Might turn into a nightmare to administer, however.
Bizzy - you know the guvmit can efficiently administer anything!!
I keep thinking of all the exceptions and deferments there would be. I remember rich and famous actor George Hamilton dated Lyndon Johnson's daughter during the Vietnam War. Hamilton got a deferment because he was "sole suppport of his mother." My mom never did like him after that.
This is something that would have to be nipped in the bud, Bizzy. As I mentioned, no exemptions, no deferrments, no nada. Maybe an IQ under 50 or other extreme cases, but anyone that can sign their name would qualify :-)
