LONESOME LOSER

We enjoy exploring new eateries, and neighborhood bars are always intriguing even if a bit scary.  For some time there has been a real dive at the corner of Broadway and Iliff in Denver.  A while back it closed down and got boarded up.  Then it came to life with some exterior painting and a complete redo of the interior, and is now known as Mike's Tavern.  Turns out Mike from Motorcycle Pawn just across Broadway bought the place and fixed up.  We decided to drop in a few days ago and it is a great corner bar where locals, bikers and non bikers alike, can hang out.  Big screens for the sports fans, good beer on tap and decent bar food.  As we chatted with Mike and some of the patrons, Lonesome Loser by the Little River Band came on the digital jukebox - hadn't heard the song for a long time, and had to think that Mike's Tavern is no longer a place for lonesome losers.

Actually, studies have shown that lonesome losers buy more beers.

Bizzy - good point. However, I think that the South Broadway ratio of rabid Broncos fans vs lonesome losers will work in Mike's favor!

I think what the study showed is that in the genre of country music, during lover's lament songs, more beers are ordered than when upbeat songs such as Boot Scootin' Boogie" are played.

We used to have a rowdy bar in Brownsburg called the Snake Bite Saloon. There was a courtyard out back where sometimes business was settled that couldn't be peaceably settled inside. Also, behind the bar was a small chalk board that listed the names of banned patrons. Next to the saloon was a liquor store. One of the humorous features was a display area next to the cash register used for the posting of bad checks. So, if your account had insufficient funds, your bounced check would be placed there for all patrons to see. That used to be a common practice at certain mom and pop's before everyone carried eight credit cards.

Bizzy - I remember the counter top displays of bad checks - sort of a wall-of-shame display. A blogging equivalent is the banning of trolls from commenting, a la the 'dungeon' that some blogger use to send unwanted commenters.
