Family and friends of Mary Aschliman Swartzendruber gathered Monday, Jan. 1, for the celebration of her 100th birthday. Her daughter, Kay Montgomery, Palm Springs, California, and her son, Douglas Swartzendruber, Westminster, Colorado, hosted the celebration in the Garden Room of Manor 3 at Greencroft in Goshen.
Born in Ohio, Mary was married April 2, 1939, in Pigeon, Michigan, to Ed Swartzendruber, a farmer and co-owner of Edd’s Supply, Shipshewana. He passed away in 2015.
Mary was a homemaker who raised the couple’s children on the family farm near Goshen. She also worked at Lucille’s Dress Shop in Goshen. Over the years, she has enjoyed traveling the world, especially her trips to Alaska, Australia and China.
She keeps busy crocheting baby hats for hospitalized infants and prayer shawls. She is a member of College Mennonite Church, Goshen.
Many family and friends made it to Indiana for the gathering including Nick and Lisa and their family. Below, yours truly, Nick, Noelle and Silas flanking Mary and great-grand-daughter Isabelle.
Happy birthday Mary. There must have been something in those cream pies!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Mary!
ReplyDeleteJohn - the cream pies, mashed potatoes with chicken noodles, bbq chicken, etc. Gettin' hungry!!
ReplyDeleteBlueberry Pie (anti-oxidant), long telomeres, and stress free kids, in the sense that the kids do not stress out the parents.
ReplyDeleteSorry you couldn't make it; hope you are feeling better. Seems as though the flu is going around in the Goshen area. Dodged the bullet thus far!!
