SONG OF THE YEAR

By Mary J. Blige and Sam Smith

Guess it's true, I'm not good at a one-night stand
But I still need love 'cause I'm just a man
These nights never seem to go to plan
I don't want you to leave, will you hold my hand?

Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love, it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me

Why am I so emotional?
No, it's not a good look, gain some self-control
And deep down I know this never works
But you can lay with me so it doesn't hurt

Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love, it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me

Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love, it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me

Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love, it's clear to see

Song of the Year sung by the Beta Male of the Year. Lol!

Phil - I think Beta is being generous! Gamma or delta maybe...

Agree, hoosier. The song would make much more sense from a female perspective.
Also, was quite aesthetically unsatisfying to show the bed he left with no body in it. Did his bed partner leave earlier? Did they want to keep us in the dark as to whether or not the bed partner was a he or a she? Or is the point it doesn’t make a difference? Whatever the case, looks like he grabbed the wrong coat on the way out.

  4. Well, Phil - the song was co-written by a woman and a man, and my understanding is that they both like men :-) So, the music can be taken either way as far as I can tell.

Your understanding is correct, DES. Here is a snip from Wikipedia:
At the Grammy ceremony on 8 February 2015, where he won four categories, including best new artist and best pop vocal album, he said, "I would like to thank the man that this album is about. By breaking my heart, you won me four Grammys!"

The culture is pretty effed up if unrequited fag love is considered the best pop music.

  7. Sick 0ne - it's about the tune and the lyrics which can be taken as hetero, not about the dude singing it :-)

At my age, or perhaps at any age I have ever been, that music and lyrics simply don't tickle my fancy. The lyrics go, “But I still need love ‘cause I’m just a man.” What’s up with that whining? Real men don’t need love. They like to be admired and sought after by hot women, but that’s about it. The lyrics and high voice mark the guy as very weak, and in his case, a fag. Why would I be interested in his laments? Guess if everybody had my taste in music there would be a lot of broke musicians. Lol!

My granddaughter loves her pacifier. Even though it is a substitute for the real thing, it calms her down. Perhaps if the singer had some sort of custom shaped “pacifier” that reminded him of his lover and being loved, he could use that to soothe his orifices and calm himself down when he yearns for love and no one is around.

  10. Sick One - I am not going to argue one bit about this song. I tend to agree that if this is The Song of the Year, the Grammy folks certainly don't represent my tastes. As you might agree, Anna Montgomery's songs stand head and shoulders above this drivel.
