Perspectives of a Colorado Curmudgeon on topics ranging from Basketball to Music to Science & Religion to Travel to Memories, touching on a bit of everything.
Unfortunately, gun control would be about as effective as heroine control, cocaine control, or pot control. Gangbangers and homicidal maniacs, by nature, do not obey gun cotrol laws. Even if all guns were banned, they wouldn't magically disappear. BTW, they should publish a statistic on lives saved by guns.
The heading on the left column should read, "Land Invasions Prevented." With over 300 million people in this country and probably 270 million guns, invaders would be facing a nut with a gun behind every tree.
Tough issue. One thing that I would support is banning of assault weapons - can't think of a good reason why folks need them. Regarding land invasions - don't think it's citizen's guns that have prevented that; more likely the 500 billion Pentagon budget expenditures :-)
I would choose a deer rifle over an assault rifle. The shooter was not too wise in using an M-16. They have been notorious for jamming, which I read his did.
Ya, ya, I know it's the New York Times, but you right-wing-nuts ought to listen to folks other than liars like Hannity. At least these guys have been there/done that.
Those Times opinions were interesting. Unfortunately, gun control is political suicide, which is why years ago you saw John Kerry on the campaign trail in Ohio stop in a sport shop and ask, "Can Ah get me one o' them thar huntin' licenses?" My favorite armed citizen story is the one about the man and his family arriving home to find it in the process of being burglarized. The man sends his wife and kids across the street to safety while he enters the house to confront the burglar. Guess which one ended up dead? Not the burglar.

ReplyDeleteI predict gun sales in Colorado will soar. Oops! They already have.

The chart would be more accurate if it were titled "Hourly Abortion Scorecard."
