As some of you know, the POTUS visited Planet Boulder yesterday - stepping from one skewed reality into another skewed reality [sorry for the scanned cartoon - could not find an online version]. Considering the extensive security measures, I made sure to stay as far away as possible from the CU campus. The only thing that I noticed was the rumbling of the helicopters transporting the Pres and his entourage into town. You can read the transcript of his speech here - focused on his campaign to keep student loan rates from doubling - sheesh, even Romney agrees with that one! Here are some quotes and items followed by my curmudgeonly commentary in bold:
Obama rocks CU [Boulder Daily Camera headline] - Duh - a liberal president on a liberal campus in a liberal town. And 'Rocks'? Reminded me of President Clinton rocking on his saxophone - I suppose that the POTUS can occasionally slip into the rock star mode, but I would prefer that they tend to pressing national and international issues. I want neither a rock star nor a beer-drinking buddy as President, much preferring an 'elite' who is a whole lot smarter and wiser than me and most everyone else.
"I heard a rumor that Robert Redford used to work there [The Sink]. Be nice to your server, because you never know where they'll end up." As if some actor is going to have an influence on my life! More seriously, it is important to always treat your server with respect regardless of where they might 'end up.'
"It's disgraceful to be a Democrat when you are young." Student at Boulder County Republican protest. I'm having a hard time following this logic -is it implied that it's not disgraceful to be a Democrat when you are old? I believe that the trend is the opposite - young Democrats become old Republicans [and young Republicans become old Teapartiers]
"Obama is pandering to college students." Vice chairwoman of the Colorado Hispanic Republicans. Somehow I doubt that she would use the same phraseology if Obama had given a speech targeted at Colorado Hispanics.
"College students are looking at the cold reality that they're going to have to graduate and get a job. Colorado Republican state chairman. This is something new? How inane.
Yogurt-gate at the Sink. Kolbi Zerbest has her 15 minutes of fame after spilling yogurt on Barry's pants. As one wag noted, the POTUS cleans yogurt off of his pants one leg at a time, just like the rest of us.
UC Boulder [what Obama called CU Boulder]. Of course he was not too far off, given the large number of students from California and the pitiful support for CU from the State of Colorado - less than 10% of the budget, heading toward 0 within a decade.
1,812 - the current number of US military deaths in Afghanistan. A number and a subject not mentioned in the speech. Of course, it's not college kids that are dying in Afghanistan.
Miscellaneous:
Loan rates a campaign non-starter, but not a non issue. Title of the Daily Camera Editorial.
Time in Boulder - 2 hours and 12 minutes
Length of Speech - 32 minutes
Motorcade - 20 SUVs and vans
Helicopters - 4 for the POTUS and press corps; one circling
Totally unrelated note - for the 13th time in the past 20 years, the CU triathlon team [combined women and men] won the National Championship.
Student loan rates were set in 2007 by the Democrats as they controlled Congress back then. How ironic that the rates were set to expire or double or whatever in 2012, an election year. Issues anyone?
ReplyDeleteSatan travels in style.
ReplyDeleteOf course she does! So - is Obama satanic because he is black, a Democrat, non-Christian [false allegation], non-supporter of Israel, [false allegation], left-handed, not a US citizen [false allegation],an elite, probably taller and a better basketball player than you, ???
ReplyDelete(Blood boiling. Must calm down and answer later.)
ReplyDeleteI can start to help you out here a little S3. Satan is a liar and the father of lies. Obama is a liar - big time, on about everything.
ReplyDeleteLet's see - Satan is a liar, the trickster, and all around makes things that are not true seem true. So, how in the world do we know what is 'true' versus what appears to be 'true' but is just a Satan trick?
ReplyDeleteIf something is anti-Christian, anti-Bible, or anti-First Ammendment, it most likely stems from Satan. Matthew 13:19 says that "When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart." That is why I believe the liberal war on religion is Satan inspired. The liberal does not understand the Gospel and does not seek to understand it. He sees it as an impediment to the realization of his liberal goals, thus seeks to detroy the idea of it.
ReplyDeleteIn real life we see an example in the liberal war on religion by forcing the Catholic church to fund abortions. The liberals have turned this fact into a lie by stating it is not they waging a war on religion, but the Republican opposition waging "a war on women."
Hoosier, re: your comment about the false allegation of Obama not being a US citizen. His birth cert is a definite forgery, but not to hide citizenship. It is a forgery because Obama does not want it known that his biological father is white and his biological mother is black, just the reverse of what we have been told.
ReplyDeleteHis "mother," Stanley Ann Dunham, is actually his half-sister. His "grandfather," Stanley Armour Dunham, is his real father. His mother is probably some prostitute type that his father met in the black bars he frequented in an area rife with prostitution.
S3 - do you and your fellow conspiracy theorists just make this s*** up??!! I can't even find a rebuttal on Snopes, which to me means that it is so far out that it's not worthy of the effort :-) Now, I am not dissing all theories of conspiracy, but this one seems so huge that it is inconceivable to me that it could be pulled off. It would appear that you get your info from The Western Center for Journalism and the World Net Daily - looney toons!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd Phil - the conservative war on religion makes us anabaptists pay for immoral and unjust wars.
Here is the link to the reference. http://cashill.com/intellect_fraud/another_look.htm.
ReplyDeleteMore later. Have to get the serpents ready for Wednesday evening church.
Hoosier, am not aware of any conservative war on religion, but am aware of a "war" on a legal, political, economic, and military system that wants us dead and calls itself Islam.
ReplyDeleteI have never met a hard up Anabaptist and believe they can easily afford to pay someone to save their hide. LOL!
ReplyDeleteHugh - my social security has not yet arrive this month and we're running really low - can you send me some cash??
ReplyDeletePhil - I guess it depends upon which 'religion' you are talking about....
ReplyDeleteDr. S, I will ask aunt Betty to send you some McDonald's coupons.
ReplyDeleteHoosier, if you really want conspiracy, bordering on, if not outright, psychotic, visit any secular college humanities classroom. There you will learn that classical philosopy and literature are "part of the patriarchal capitalistic conspiracy to oppress the downtrodden."
