Perspectives of a Colorado Curmudgeon on topics ranging from Basketball to Music to Science & Religion to Travel to Memories, touching on a bit of everything.
(Thanks for explaining FSM.) My take on cultural evolution is that "The Good" confers a selective advantage over "The Barbaric" which confers a selective advantage over "The Moronic." So, as our nation voluntarily transitions from The Good to The Moronic, The Barbaric will one day emerge as the dominant element.
Triple S - did you watch Pat Robertson's video on the 2012 Predictions? He has had his annual talk with G_d about what's coming in the new year, and apparently G_d agrees with your comment about the Barbaric - that's what's coming in 2012! G_d also told him who was going to win the Presidential election, but also told him not to tell. Must be tough keeping G_d's secrets - sheesh.
Dr. S., you admit to watching Pat Robertson. Tsk, tsk. LOL! There is not much that makes me cringe more than to hear a person state, "God told me the other day..." or "I was talking with God and He said..." That leaves most Christians out in left field and feeling excluded because God never talked to them or told them anything. Maybe there are people with a special hotline to God. If so, they should keep their mouths shut about it. One of the leading spiritual leaders of our time, John MacArthur, said that God never talked to him in the sense of, "God told me the other day..." He DID say God communicates to him through His words in the Holy Bible and that that's perfectly sufficient. It is clear from Old Testament history that as cultures abandon God and righteousness, chaos and turmoil ensue and the culture eventually flounders. So, Pat, you and I come to the same conclusion.
Well Sick One, I must clear one thing up - I am not a regular watcher of Pat Robertson :-) I became aware of the video via another blog and included it ex post facto to the Predictions entry. I too am completely cynical of claims that "G_d told me" this or that. Most [all?] of those folks are delusional! However, I will accept that folks can 'hear' G-d speaking to them via scripture, nature, or other sources of wisdom.
I did not figure you for a Pat Robertson fan/viewer. Agree that God communicates with us in many ways outside of speaking complete sentences in our ear in a radio announcer voice.
For anyone who is wondering - FSM is the Flying Spaghetti Monster :-)

ReplyDeleteBTW, you have a strange way of spelling God.
ReplyDeleteSigma - the G_d is a traditional Hebrew spelling because the name of G_d is holy and thus cannot be spelled out completely.
ReplyDeleteGod communicates to me through Sick's comments.
ReplyDeleteNAL - indeed you do!!!!
ReplyDeleteDecided against one after seeing the movies Suddenly Last Summer and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
