They say ev’rything can be replaced
Yet ev’ry distance is not near
So I remember ev’ry face
Of ev’ry man who put me here
I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released
They say ev’ry man needs protection
They say ev’ry man must fall
Yet I swear I see my reflection
Some place so high above this wall
I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released
Standing next to me in this lonely crowd
Is a man who swears he’s not to blame
All day long I hear him shout so loud
Crying out that he was framed
I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released
Click here for a fairly rare video of Dylan and friends doing this song.
Enigmatic is putting it mildly. Anyone out there know what this song means? Maybe it just goes from the writer's unconscious to our unconscious and connects in an unknown, unconscious way?
ReplyDeleteBTW, Doc, thanks for being such a cultural enlightener by introducing artists and music in your blog I had never heard of before.
Thanks BB - as with many Dylan tunes, there are great conjectures about the song's meaning; but mainly it's just folks making up stuff :-) I am glad you enjoy the tunes because I sure do - and it's always interesting to find some obscure stuff, like Joan Baez singing with the Smothers Brothers - outstanding!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a treat!! Many thanks from Paulson and me.
ReplyDeleteGlad y'all are enjoying these. I know that I do :-) Most folks probably know that by clicking on one of the subject "Labels" on the right, blogger will aggregate all of those posts; so, if you want music or Goshen College or whatever, just click on the subject.
